HTC Velocity

That so much waited HTC Velocity has been launched today. The device comes with a few changes but the company kept some key features of it. If you remember the HTC Velocity was meant to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Do not get disappointed, if you want to use the device with Android Ice Cream Sandwich then have a little patience since AusDroid says the corresponding update will soon come by Telstra.

If you want to read the full info about the device you can read the HTC Vivid Review as the Velocity by Telstra is the same smartphone.
Some of the important features of the Velocity are 1.5GHz dual-core processor, the 4.5-inch qHD (960×540 pixels) display, 8MP camera, 1.2MP camera, 1GB of RAM and HTC Sense 3.5.
According to Telstra the HTC Velocity is the fastest Australian smartphone in the Australian network. This is not the only HTC smartphone in Telstra, the carrier also offers the HTC EVO 3D and HTC Sensation. It’s up to you to decide which device you want but remember the HTC Velocity will get ICS for the first.

HTC Dev unlicks bootloaders for seven more HTC Phone

HTC’s official bootloader unlocking tool has just added support for a few new devices. OK, new may not be the right word since the newest device on the list was announced eleven months ago, but we’re glad to see the HTC Dev team working hard to add support to as many phones as possible.
The latest handsets to get support from HTC’s bootloader unlocking tool are the HTC Salsa, ChaCha, Status, Desire Z, Aria, DROID Incredible and T-Mobile G2. Keep in mind that using HTC’s official bootloader unlocker will void part of your warranty. Make sure you know what you’re doing and be sure to follow the directions to the letter.

NVIDIA hints at a Tegra 3 powered HTC phone for Mobile World Congress

HTC didn’t make much of appearance at CES this year, but we did spend some quality time talking to the buys from NVIDIA and Qualcomm to see if we could dig up anything new on the phones HTC is expected to unveil at Mobile World Congress next month. Qualcomm’s people were not very talkative, but it’s no secret that HTC will be launching new devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 processor.

Since HTC has been using Qualcomm chips in all of their Android and WIndows Phone devices for quite some time, we naturally had a hard time believing the rumors that HTC would team up with NVIDIA to deliver a Tegra 3 powered handset at Mobile World Congress. We made several stops at NVIDIA’s booth while at CES last week to see if we could dig up any information on the HTC Edge (the handset rumored to run on a Tegra 3 chip). As you might expect, NVIDIA’s people were pretty tight-lipped about any new devices that have not year been announced, but I did manage to get someone admit that HTC fans may soon have the option of purchasing a Tegra 3 powered phone.

HTC profits fo4 Q4 of 2011 drop as competiton heats up in the Android segment

After a great Q3 of 2011 where the Taiwanese company posted a $624 million profit, HTC is now reporting that year-over-year profits in the fourth quarter of 2011 dropped 26% to $364 million. This is the first drop in profit for HTC in the past two years and analysts are predicting that this decline will continue into the first quarter of 2012. The popularity of Apple’s iPhone, as well as the recent release of the Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus, are partially to blame for the revenue decline. Bloomberg notes that the weakened global economy is also a contributing factor to the diminishing of HTC’s profit.
